Marvin “Barney” U. Dickson, age 89 years of Mulberry, FL and formerly of Toledo, OH, died Friday, January 29, 2010 in his home. Born July 19, 1920 in Toledo, OH, he was the son of Roy and Bessie (Osborn) Dickson. A 1940 graduate of Libbey High School, he married Donna M. Hancock on Feb. 18, 1950 in Toledo, OH. She preceded him in death on July 3, 1995. He then married Karen Pappen on May 22, 1998. Marvin was the owner/operator of Toledo Decorating Center (formerly Toledo Window Shade) and Artistic Pools and Spa for over 40 years. He sold the business to his daughters which are still operating today. He was an active member of First Alliance Church in Toledo, where he served as Chairmen of the Elders and Sunday School Teacher. He was one of the founding board members of the Cherry Street Mission and did their weekly radio broadcast in the 1980’s and 90’s. Marvin also served on the admissions committee for the Toledo Christian School and was a member of the President’s Advisory Committee of Toccoa Falls College.
Surviving are his wife, Karen. Daughters, Linda (Lawrence) Cassavore, Marilyn Dickson, Karen (Evan Paul) Lawrence, and Sharon (Ken) Borowicz, all of Toledo, OH. Grandchildren, Lawrence, Lori, Lee, Lynette, Lacey, Evan and Bailee. Great grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, Jaxon and Sean and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, Robert, Donald, Lawrence and Ernest Dickson.
Visitation will from 3-8 pm Friday at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at First Alliance Church of Toledo. Memorials may be made to the church building fund. The angel came and said it was time; don’t worry Dad, we will be fine. You have taught us well and did your best; now it is time for you to rest. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone. For a part of us went with you, the day God called you home. |
